Investing in the Future

It’s important, now more than ever, that we all do our bit for the environment. Whether it’s using a bamboo straw instead of a plastic one, or trawling our beaches for rubbish, no deed is too big or small.

It’s no secret that we’re a developing company- we create more and more job opportunities each year, we build new adventures, we broaden our horizons… but what do we give back to this amazing planet that makes all of this possible?

We want to talk you through our most recent eco-friendly footsteps, which comes in the form of five BMW i3 beauties. Our hard-working staff often travel in between our three sites, along our adventure highway (which you can take a look at here) and keep the Zip World cogs turning. As you can imagine, this little commute a few times a week can eventually rack up quite the carbon footprint. Cue BMW. This investment has resulted in five of these electrically powered vehicles joining the Zip World family.

They charge on site and are good to go. No fuel needed, so they give off zero harmful carbon emissions and are a true leap forward in terms of sustainability. This is as eco-friendly as it gets! Keep an eye out for them in the area, you can’t really miss them!

“Zip World's ambition is to cause as little environmental impact from our business as possible - both across our three sites and along the North Wales, Adventure Highway, between our locations” Sean Taylor, Co-Founder

The amazing team at BMW delivered them to our spectacular Penrhyn Quarry site, home to the world’s fastest zip line, Velocity 2. Co-founders Nick Moriarty and Sean Taylor (both pictured below) welcomed them to the family on Friday- we think Zip World mascot Basil quite liked them too! We were joined by Daily Post photographer David Powell, who conducted a little interview with Sean. He touched on why sustainability and taking care of the environment is so important to Zip World. Check out the article here.

Don’t forget to let us know what else you think we could be doing to help save the planet. We’ve already made steps in our Blondins Restaurant by changing up our packaging, and updated our recycling facilities, but any more tips and ideas are welcome!

Zip World Rocks 2018

Take a closer look at our Zip World Rocks concert, in aid of the Love Hope Strength Foundation.

On the 23rd of June 2018, we at Zip World hosted our first ever open-air charity concert at our spectacular Penrhyn Quarry site. The evening was held in aid of the Love Hope Strength Foundation, a local charity set up in 2003 by former ‘The Alarm’ frontman and cancer survivor Mike Peters. The charity was established to support those living and battling with cancer, and raise awareness and recruit donors to the organ and bone marrow register. So, naturally, it was incredibly important to us to do justice to this incredible cause and put on an unforgettable evening.

We were off to a strong start, the weather was on our side and the Snowdonia Rocks walkers had just completed their 20km charity hike along the beautiful mountain range. Everyone was in good spirits and eager to jump into the evening’s festivities. Our Zip World Rocks stage stood at the heart of the site, overlooking the runway of our famous Velocity 2, the world’s fastest zipline.

The food concessions were stocked, the stage was set, and the bands had warmed up. We were ready to go. We kicked off the evening with a performance by Welsh four-piece band ‘The Storyville Mob’, whose upbeat tracks set the tone of the evening, with a real feel of positivity and unity.

Gareth Jones, known as Welsh TV presenter Gaz Top, hosted the evening from start to finish, projecting his enthusiasm and high spirits along the way. Gareth has worked closely with Mike Peters for 39 years, so it was an honour to have his love for the LHS Foundation and local knowledge on board.

Next up was ‘Third Generation’. This up and coming band is formed by three young Welsh lads, two of which are the sons of the man himself, Mike Peters. The boys treated us to a few renditions of popular classics, such as Oasis, and were incredibly composed and really embraced playing to a big crowd. Their professionalism and confidence could only have been taught by their dad! Well done boys, you really shone. 'Maffia Mr Huws' also took to the stage, showing us the true meaning of Welsh rock. The gents had a large following in the crowd, you could really feel the love in the air from the second they grabbed their guitars. They were followed on stage by ‘Cor Y Penrhyn’. This local choir honoured us with a breath-taking selection of their greatest songs and sent us on an emotional rollercoaster; we stood in awe of their incredible talent, and a few were pushed close to tears. They were proudly joined on stage by Mike, as well as the talented choir of local schools; Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen, Ysgol Pen Y Bryn and Ysgol Llanlechid for yet another heartfelt singalong.

It wasn’t long before Gareth announced our special entertainment for the evening- Base Jumper himself, Andy Guest. This celebrated self-confessed adrenaline junkie and world record holder based himself at the top of our Velocity 2 zipline, to stun our guests with a spectacular stunt. Andy raced down the zipline, hitting speeds of 100mph. At the halfway point, the audience gasped in shock as he suddenly dropped into a freefall, plummeting to the lake below. He then released his parachute, gliding gracefully into the lake, which was met with a standing ovation and a huge cheer. The stunt was something that had never been done before, and was truly spectacular to witness.

Base JumperImage by: Iolo Penri

We were then treated to a very energetic and amazingly fun set by the fantastic ‘Band Pres Llareggub’. Not what you’d usually expect from a brass band- these boys had the whole crowd on their feet, dancing and cheering along to Hip-Hop inspired tunes, and humming along to many modern and recognisable songs. They took conventionality and turned it on its head, a real feat by true local talent.

The crowds warmed up for our two headliners, enjoying all of our fantastic food concessions, merch stand and selfie area. The VIP ticket holders relaxed in our Blodins Restaurant, with a complimentary glass of fizz and an incredible view from the balcony, which overlooked the entire event and the Quarry itself. We were excited to introduce our very own cocktail, the ‘Slade Slammer’ over at the Foragers Gin stand, where their expertly trained staff shook up all kinds of gin-based goodies. The boys over at ‘Beardo Bar’ worked non-stop all night, providing beer on tap, whilst the lovely team at ‘Blas ar Fwyd’ kept our energy levels to the max with all of our locally sourced hot snacks and sweets. Not to forget all of the plant-based and veggie goods being sold over at the ‘Veggieman’ stand, as well as ‘My Coffee Station’ catering to our caffeine needs. A particularly popular stop for the evening was the delicious hog roast served by ‘G Williams and Sons Butchers’- amazing!

Zip World’s Callum and Candice manned the merchandise stall all evening. They kitted the crowd out with their very own Zip World apparel, from t-shirts, to bandanas to hoodies, whilst everyone busied themselves at our selfie area, taking some cool pictures with all kinds of rock ‘n’ roll props.

Man of the moment Mike Peters then took to the stage as our evening’s first headliner. The crowd raced towards the stage to grab a good spot for the performance. The heartfelt and emotional set further reminded us of the true purpose of the evening; to raise awareness and celebrate the amazing accomplishments of the Love Hope Strength Foundation. Everyone sang along to former ‘The Alarm’ frontman’s epic tracks, and there was a real buzz in the air as he descended the stage.

After much anticipation, main headliners Slade finally took their turn on the stage just as the sun was setting. The rock legends put on an epic show, and each member of the crowd was on their feet, dancing and singing along to all the classics. Slade showed true showmanship, interacting with everyone, and rocking just as hard as they did at the beginning of their reign. They ended the evening with an epic encore, which concluded an amazingly successful first concert for Zip World.

We raised over £25000 during the event for the Love Hope Strength Foundation, an amazing feat for a life changing local charity. We were honoured to work alongside Mike and Jules Peters during Zip World Rocks. Without them, the evening wouldn’t have been possible, and we can’t thank them enough for their support. We would also like to extend a special thank you to our Group Bookings Adventure Consultant, Steph Jones, for playing such a huge role in the planning of this fantastic event. Well done to all the Zip World staff, who worked around the clock to ensure the smooth running of the event- we’re already looking forward to the next!

Zip World Swabbing for Cancer

We're now a registration partner of DKMS, joining them on the fight against blood cancer!

Are you on the list?

We recently had the pleasure of hosting DKMS at Zip World Base Camp where Lisa from DKMS trained our team so that we are now able to swab people so they can be added to the donor register.

DKMS is a charity dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders. Their mission is to provide a matching donor for every blood cancer patient in need of a blood stem cell donation.

Jules Peters from Love Hope Strength started the day by talking to the team about LHS's origins. Her moving stories solidified our belief that LHS is a charity we are proud to work with on Snowdonia and Zip World Rocks.

What does this mean?

When you visit any of our sites, if you tell a member of our team that you want to volunteer to be a donor, we can perform the swabbing and get you added.

Registering as a donor means that you would be on standby to save the life of a patient such as Peter, an 40 year old father of two or Chloe, a seven year old from Sunderland. Currently there are no matches anywhere in the world for these patients.

All it takes is a simple swabbing of your cheeks which is then sent off and voila! You are a registered donor.

We hope you support us on this journey and if you're visiting one of our sites and would like to help us save lives, let a member of staff know and get on the list!

With a steeper decline (now 20 degrees), achieve speeds of 0 - 60mph in just 10 seconds!

The brand new experience features custom made technology developed by our world class team, to increase speed, accessibility and comfort for our riders and spectators alike.

The new development offers a completely different experience for riders from kit up to landing as they soar through the air at speed, 500 feet above the lake in Penrhyn Quarry.

The new launch-pad features a specially engineered bed that is lowered for takeoff, increasing accessibility for people with mobility issues. The trolleys feature state of the art technology - making the zip wire quieter so that riders feel even closer to flying. The new patented braking system allows for a quicker and smoother arrival.

Where Snowdonia and Zip World Rocks began

Where Snowdonia and Zip World Rocks began

Snowdonia Rocks

You may have seen that we’ve partnered up with Love Hope Strength this year with their Snowdonia Rocks Walk, introducing a new element to the day, Zip World Rocks! We’d like to share a bit of background on who Love Hope Strength (LHS) are and how Snowdonia Rocks began.

“Love Hope Strength Foundation as a charity promotes innovative, music related, outreach and awareness programmes for leukemia and cancer sufferers, survivors and their families. The charity raises awareness and recruits potential donors to the organ and bone marrow registers.”

How Snowdonia Rocks Began

Just over 10 years ago, when Mike, LHS co-founder, two-times cancer survivor and internationally acclaimed singer of Welsh rock band The Alarm, was receiving treatment in the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre, he made a pledge to climb Snowdon as soon as he got well enough to do so.

It was here that his plans to give back to those who had cared for him, and who continue to do so, and to help others with a cancer diagnosis first began to form. It was here that the ideas behind Love Hope Strength were born.

Over the past ten years, since Mike’s dream of getting back on Snowdon after his leukaemia diagnosis and intensive treatment, and thousands of people have now summited Snowdon as part of LHS’s Snowdon Rocks. Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised to support people with cancer and life changing friendships have been created on the mountainside. In recent years partnerships have been built between LHS and the NHS charity, Awyr Las, and international charity DKMS which have seen the numbers of people taking part in Snowdon Rocks, and the incredible impact of the fundraising taking place, increase dramatically.

After a hugely successful ten years of summiting Snowdon in all weathers, Mike has now decided to refocus Snowdon Rocks, adapting the day to make it even more special.

With a different hike planned; more music and adventure; new important partnerships; a desire to open up the day to different age groups; introduce more people to new areas of Snowdonia; and recognition that we need to reduce the adverse environmental impact that challenge events are having on Snowdon itself, we present Snowdonia Rocks.

“It’s not always about the summit, but how far we’ve come.”

Snowdonia Rocks promises to be a family friendly, inclusive day with more music, more opportunities to take in some of the wonders of Snowdonia and a chance to reflect, remember and celebrate friends and family affected by cancer and other life changing and life limiting illnesses.

The passion, fun and positivity of Snowdon Rocks remain. So what’s changed? For a start, we are so happy to have come on board to sponsor and host Snowdonia and Zip World Rocks.

We hope to see you there! Please make sure you book your tickets to avoid disappointment.

Zip World Bucket List

What's on your 2018 bucket list?

Zip World Caverns

In 2017, we've seen so many of you come to Zip World as part of a fundraiser or a bucket list challenge, and we're so happy to be able to support you in your goals. Our range of adventures are exhilarating, challenging and most importantly, fun!

Now, Velocity seems the obvious choice when it comes to bucket lists. It's the fastest zip line in the world and the closest thing to flying. It is simply breathtakaking if we're honest. Well, we take Velocity and raise you: Caverns.

Add Zip World Caverns to your Bucket List

What can beat flying over a stunning quarry lake, taking in the amazing views of the North Wales coast at up to 118mph I hear you ask?

Why, taking an epic journey through the underground caverns on zip lines, rope bridges, via ferrata and tunnels. It's challenging, mentally and physically, but also so fun and rewarding! People are always telling us it's the best thing that they've ever done. Yes, Velocity is exhilarating, but Caverns is up to 3 hours of extraordinary adventure underground.

Don't just take our word for it, here's what people say about Zip World Caverns!

Bucket List Caverns

"A high wire course, but down in the caves. Lots of zip wires which is the most fun part, but the whole route is amazing, well designed, suitably challenging, and completely safe.

The training course is well organised, takes a little over an hour and gives you plenty of time to get used to the way the harnesses work. They are rigged so that you can only disconnect one at a time so it's not possible to release yourself completely whilst you are on the course. The instructors are very friendly, making you feel at ease quite quickly.

The caves are truly breath-taking, I can't recommend this enough if you like this kind of activity."
- Russar14, TripAdvisor, November 2017

Bucket List Caverns
"No better way to explore caverns

Zip line/obstacle course in a cavern... amazing. So much fun. You are on your own to clip yourself in so, for your own safety you want to be sure that you can do that properly which they train you to do before they let you off on your own. It was both nerve racking and exciting at the same time. Definitely recommend to adventure seekers. Not for the faint at heart."  - Trixie S, 6 November 2017

"The training was very good & informative which gets your prepared to tackle the main course on your own. So much work has gone into the course to make it varied and exciting. There are 10 different zip ropes all varying in size and steepness. Each bridge is different which makes it a fun challenge. We spent 2.5 hours doing this activity which included the bonus ending." - del002014, TripAdvisor, November 2017

Break out of your comfort zone in 2018, give Caverns a go!

Zip World The Company - Going Downhill Fast

This Thursday, 9th of November, Sean Taylor will be speaking at the Family Attraction Expo in Birmingham. He'll be talking about he Zip World story, before during and after. The potted history of a company that’s gone from 8 members of staff in 2013 to 350 staff in 2017. Seminar will include some video footage, no bad language and hopefully some smiles and laughs.

We hope to see you there.

About Sean Taylor, Director

Sean Taylor, Conwy valley born and bred, spent his early years as a Royal Marines commando followed by a stint as bodyguard for various celebrities. He then returned home after 26 years travelling the world to North Wales in 2007 and opened Tree Top Adventure, near the tourist town of Betws y Coed. This attraction soon became one of the most popular high rope adventure courses in the UK.

Zip World came about through a dream of building one of the biggest zip lines in the world over a quarry. The dream came to fruition in March 2013 after 2 years in planning and construction.
Velocity is the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe, and as such was granted a large amount of media interest. Within no time at all, Zip World Velocity had had visits from the like of Ant and Dec and The One Show.

The Zip World team went on to develop a range of other extraordinary attractions at two more sites in North Wales in Blaenau Ffestiniog and the former Tree Top Adventure site near Betws y Coed. Excited adventurers flock to North Wales to experience anything from bouncy nets in giant caverns to forest adventures.

Zip World's expansion continues to grow with the imminent launch of the Adventure Terminal and the 150 cover Blondin's Restaurant at the Bethesda site and a 3 month zip line event in London during the summer months.

It's Zip World's mission to bring extraordinary adventure to the masses.

Zip World Titan has been closed over winter, and reopens April 1st! Lots of hard work has gone into training the staff ready for the opening (see picture to the left of our staff training).

The ultimate group zip lining experience, Titan is currently the largest zip zone in Europe. Zipping in a seated position, you are afforded stunning views over Blaenau Ffestiniog and down the valley ahead.

Zip World Titan encompasses three zip lines - Alfa, Bravo and Charlie. Each rider travels over 2,000m. The total length of the zip lines is over 8,000m!

Safety, as always, has been a huge priority in preparing for Titan to reopen. Staff have been working none stop for months to get this amazing adventure ready!

This week we had our staff open day so that our lovely team could have the chance to take their friends and family on the adventure. The weather wasn't amazing, but a great day was had by all!
