Christmas magic returns to North Wales this December with Zipmas!
Far from your usual festive outing, Zipmas offers an authentic Christmas experience with a magical twist. Set deep underground in a historic Welsh slate mine, our Zip World Llechwedd site just outside Blaenau Ffestiniog, is transformed into a winter wonderland.
Among twinkling lights and glittering decorations, families can meet Santa in his underground grotto, take part in festive workshops, and savour delicious seasonal food. It’s a one-of-a-kind adventure that combines tradition with a touch of Zip World magic, creating memories that sparkle long after Christmas has passed.

Grotto Experience - Underground
A Christmas grotto experience like no other! As you can’t reach Santa’s Grotto by foot, your Zipmas experience will begin with a magical journey underground on Europe’s steepest cable railway. The train tunnel is illuminated with festive lights that will transport you into a sparkling world just below the surface. The train will glide into the station where you will be guided by our helpful Elves!
With a lantern in hand, navigate your way through an enchanting light maze, before following the sparkles through to Santa’s Workshop to see where all the presents get made. You will end your grotto journey at our main chamber where the big man himself will be waiting for you! Here you can meet Santa one-on-one and tell him all your Christmas wishes surrounded by a charming and festive grotto complete with log burner to make it extra cosy. Relive this magical moment again with a photo of you and Santa to take away with you.
Letter to Santa - Underground
While Santa is visiting North Wales, why not make the most of his trip and give him your Christmas letter personally? You will be given special magic paper to write down all your Christmas wishes when you get to Santa’s Workshop underground and then pop it through our North Pole post box. Santa and his Elves will make sure that all your letters are taken back to the North Pole with them where they will create the gifts for the good boys and girls for Christmas Day!
Slate Bauble Crafting – Above ground
Make your day even more special with our slate bauble craft station. Receive your very own slate bauble from Santa himself, when you visit him in his grotto, and take it back to the surface to decorate. We have pens, paint and glitter available to decorate your bauble just how you like, ready to take away and hang on your Christmas tree. This unique memento will remind you of your time seeing Santa in his secret slate cave and can be used each year to decorate the tree.
Hot drink & treat – Above ground
It’s hungry work keeping up that Christmas spirit, so we have included a warm drink and treat in your Zipmas ticket. Head to our cosy shop where your treats will be waiting for you before your big adventure! Choose between a complimentary hot chocolate or mulled wine and a local homemade mince pie or shortbread.
Present from Santa – Above ground
What is a trip to see Santa without a present to take home? After you have written your letter to Santa, seen the main man himself and decorated your bauble, you can pop into our gift shop to receive your present from one of the team. Santa has magical gifts for children who have purchased a ticket. You’re more than welcome to open the gift there and then or take it home to put under the tree for Christmas Day.

Zipmas and Grotto Golf
If you fancy an extra sprinkling of adventure, why not opt for our ‘Grotto Golf’ package? Enjoy all of the above, plus a round on our adventure golf course, ‘Underground Golf’!
This is the world’s deepest adventure golf set in a cave, with 18 holes to tackle over 4 levels of mining-themed obstacles, sensory elements and impressive lighting.
Children must be 3+ years to participate in Grotto Golf.

Who? This experience is great for all the family no matter the age but all participants including children must be of walking ability due to the nature of the underground environment.
Parking: Free parking included with your Zipmas ticket.
Food and drinks: Some food and drink are included in your ticket but if you are looking for something a bit more substantial, there will be food and drinks available each day to purchase from our onsite restaurant. Items will include hot food and drinks, soft and alcoholic drinks and a selection of light bites.
Restrictions: Please check the individual adventure restrictions here before purchasing. All participating must be of good walking ability. You can only receive everything mentioned in the ticket if your children purchase a ticket and is able to take part in the underground activities.
