The family-friendly festivities of Zipmas return to the Victorian slate mines of Llechwedd once more this Christmas season, with plenty of magical scenes to explore, activities to enjoy, and a big man to meet! Grab your hard hat and jump aboard the underground train, where truly enchanting Christmas cheer awaits, alongside thousands of twinkling lights, stunning festive music and a cosy grotto.

Zipmas isn’t just any old grotto, this is a truly immersive experience from start to finish, with plenty to do and see both above and below ground.

What’s included in Zipmas?

Zipmas tickets are sold per person, more info on pricing and different types of tickets below.

Each Zipmas ticket includes the following;

1. Access to the underground enchanted areas; the light maze, Santa’s workshop, and Santa’s grotto, as well as a meet-and-greet with Santa

2. A train journey underground

3. A wrapped gift from Santa (children’s tickets only)

4. A Welsh slate bauble to decorate at the decoration station

5. A letter to Santa to write and post at the letter writing station

6. A mince pie and hot chocolate/ mulled wine

Upgrade to Grotto Golf

Fancy adding an extra sprinkling of adventure to your Zipmas experience? Choose the Grotto Golf package, where you’ll experience all of the above, as well as a round of adventure golf on the world’s deepest underground crazy golf course! This impressive adventure golf course features 18 holes across 4 storeys, with plenty of slate mining themed obstacles, impressive lighting, interactive elements and an optional drop slide! This adventure is appropriate for anyone over the age of 3, so it’s the perfect family- friendly adventure to end a perfect day.

When and where is Zipmas?

Zipmas will be open daily from 22nd of November to the 24th December 2024. Opening times vary, so please pick your tickets to view the calendar.

Zipmas tickets and prices

There are a few ticket options available, starting at £20 for an adult’s ticket, which includes all of the above, apart from the gift from Santa. Children’s tickets start at £23 and include the gift from Santa.

You also have the option to upgrade to a Grotto Golf ticket, where you experience all of the above, plus enjoy a round of adventure golf on the world’s deepest adventure golf course! Grotto Golf tickets start at £32.

Who is Zipmas for?

Zipmas is an appropriate experience for anyone who is able to keep a helmet on underground, and anyone who is of walking ability – including children. This is due to the nature of the underground mines. We cannot safely allow any strollers, prams, wheelchairs, baby carriers, slings or babes in arms in the underground mines. Please consider this when booking this experience.

Do I need to pre-book Zipmas?

We would highly recommend pre-booking to avoid disappointment, Zipmas is an extremely popular event and sells out quickly, so we would always recommend pre-booking to ensure you and your family get the space you deserve for a magical Christmas experience!

What should I wear to Zipmas?

A good question! As the underground mines are protected from the elements, we can guarantee you won’t need your waterproofs, however, the mines are a steady 6-8 degrees Celsius year-round, so we’d still recommend wrapping up warm. Don’t forget to wear sturdy footwear, such as trainers or boots.
