Why Halloween isn’t just for kids anymore

When we think of Halloween, most people will picture pumpkin carving or trick or treating - activities aimed at the little ones. But that’s not to say that adults can’t enjoy Halloween just as much as the kids do. Halloween is supposed to be scary so who better to experience and appreciate the true nature of Halloween than adults. Halloween is an annual celebration for all to take part in, just as you would Christmas or Bonfire Night, and is the perfect excuse to gather your friends or family to participate in Halloween fun.

This post is from some time ago, so the information may no longer be accurate or valid.

Adults should celebrate Halloween and here’s why:

1. The rise of the scare-fest

Scare-fests for adults such as Ffear Fforest and Monsters of the Mine are booming, turning Halloween into a thrilling, grown up experience. From immersive haunted houses to full-scale horror festivals, these adult Halloween events offer high quality scares, themed cocktails, and unforgettable nights out. It’s clear that adults want more than treats they want a full-on fright night.

2. A night off

Halloween gives adults permission to tap into that childlike joy. It’s one of the few times a year when playfulness and quirks are not only accepted but celebrated. We get to relive the excitement we felt as kids, minus the bedtime and plus the cocktails! Let’s face it, being an adult can be exhausting. Between deadlines, responsibilities, and day-to-day life, Halloween offers a much-needed break from reality.

3. Connection

Beyond parties and costumes, Halloween brings people together. From themed nights and scare-fests, it’s a shared experience that unites people. As an adult it’s difficult to find or make time away from your regular routine to spend with people but Halloween is the perfect excuse.

4. The business of spooky season

Halloween spending has skyrocketed in recent years, and adults are driving much of it. According to Finder, adults in the UK are projected to spend £779 million on costumes, decorations, and themed entertainment this year, with gen z and millennial adults leading the charge. Haunted attractions, escape rooms, and horror films are booming, all designed for an older audience hungry for thrills.

Halloween gives adults permission to play, imagine, and escape routine. In a world that often feels serious, being a kid again, even just for a night, feels exhilarating again.
