Enjoy a magical festive experience like no other, and meet Santa in our incredible underground Christmas Grotto! Grab your complimentary mince pie, hot chocolate or mulled wine, and the elves will be waiting to show you and your family aboard the cable railway, where you’ll delve deep underground to the famous Victorian Llechwedd slate mine.
Head through the festive tunnels to Santa’s Grotto, where he and his team of Elves will be ready to greet you with a wrapped gift, your very own Welsh slate bauble to decorate at our craft station, and plenty of picture opportunities, of course. You can even give him your Christmas letter!
Once you’ve soaked up the magical atmosphere, jump back in the train, and why not grab a festive bite to eat in the Llechwedd Caffi, and decorate your slate bauble at our craft station, ready to take pride of place on the tree. If you didn’t get a chance to give your letter to Santa personally, don’t forget to post it at the special North Pole Postbox – it’ll be there waiting for him when he gets home after his trip to North Wales!
Before heading home, don’t forget to pop into our onsite gift shop – it’s the perfect spot to grab some treats to remember your visit by, and even stock up on a few stocking fillers for friends and family.

Hot Chocolate or Mulled Wine

As you enter this magical Christmas experience you and the rest of your family will be greeted with a winter warmer, in the form of a complimentary mince pie and mulled wine (big elves only!) or hot chocolate. The perfect way to start your Zipmas journey!
Slate Bauble Crafting Experience
We want you to leave remembering Zipmas forever, so each of Santa’s little visitors will get to take home their very own Welsh slate bauble to take centre stage on the tree this year. Not only that, but you’ll also have the chance to get your creative juices flowing and decorate it at our craft station after meeting the man himself.
Present from Santa
It wouldn’t be Zipmas at Llechwedd without a little gift for your child to enjoy; you might want to save it until Christmas Day, or maybe you’ll open it while you’re with us - either way, we hope you love your magical gift from Santa and his elves. Santa has gifts suitable for a range of different ages.
Letter to Santa
While Santa’s Elves are busy in the North Pole creating all of those gifts for children around the world, Santa is with us in North Wales, so why not give him your letter personally! If you don’t get the chance to when you visit him in the Grotto, you can always post it in our North Pole Postbox – if you leave your address, Santa may even send you a response to wish you a happy 2022!
Train Underground
Santa’s Grotto is deep underground in the magical old mine, so you’ll need to hop aboard the train on Europe’s steepest cable railway to reach him! This exciting journey will take around 90 seconds, and you and your family will have your very own carriage while you head below to the wintery wonder that awaits. Our elves will take good care of you and lead you through the tunnels to the hidden Grotto where you’ll meet Santa.
