Plas Newydd

Plas Newydd is a grand historic mansion set on the banks of the Menai Strait, offering sweeping views of Eryri (Snowdonia) and beautifully landscaped gardens. Once the seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey, this elegant 18th-century house combines classical architecture with a rich military and artistic history.

The 5th Marquess of Anglesey, Henry Cyril Paget, was famous for his lavish lifestyle, cross-dressing and flamboyant parties.

Inside, visitors can explore lavishly decorated rooms filled with antique furniture, family portraits, and the famous 58-foot mural by artist Rex Whistler, who had a close connection to the house. Outside, the grounds include centuries-old trees, colourful terraces, and peaceful woodland trails, along with a military museum that tells the story of the 1st Marquess of Anglesey’s role in the Battle of Waterloo.

With its combination of heritage, art, and stunning scenery, Plas Newydd offers something for everyone - whether you're exploring the historic interiors, walking along the waterfront gardens, or simply enjoying the views with a cup of tea from the café. It’s one of Anglesey’s most impressive and tranquil day-out destinations.
