Snowdon Mountain Railway
The Snowdon Mountain Railway offers a breathtaking journey to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the highest mountain in Wales. Departing from Llanberis at the foot of the mountain, the railway climbs over 1,000 metres through dramatic landscapes, past waterfalls, rocky outcrops, and open valleys.
The railway opened in 1896 and spans 4.7 mils of track.
Passengers can choose between traditional diesel carriages or heritage steam locomotives, each offering panoramic views from comfortable, enclosed seating. The trip to the summit takes around one hour, with a short stop at the top to take in the views, explore the visitor centre, and enjoy a light refreshment.
Open seasonally from spring to autumn, the railway is suitable for all ages and is an ideal way to experience Snowdonia’s rugged beauty without the physical demands of a mountain hike. It’s a unique and unforgettable way to reach the top of Wales.
