Tŷ Hwnt I’r Bont Tearooms
Tŷ Hwnt I’r Bont - literally “Beyond the Bridge” - is a 15th-century Grade II-listed building gracefully nestled beside the historic Pont Fawr bridge over the River Conwy.
Famed for its Virginia creeper ivy which turns bright red in the autumn.
Originally a farmhouse built in 1480, it later served as Llanrwst’s courthouse during the 16th century before falling into disrepair and then being lovingly restored by the local community. For over 50 years it has operated as a welcoming tearoom under National Trust stewardship.
Inside, the cosy space oozes old-world charm with low oak beams, traditional decor, and walls lined with vintage teapots. The menu features classic Welsh fare including freshly baked scones, Bara Brith, loose-leaf teas, afternoon tea sets, and locally made ice cream. Tables both inside and in the pretty riverside garden offer tranquil views across the Conwy Valley.
Open all year, the tearoom welcomes dogs on leads and provides a small car park. Ideal for walkers exploring nearby forest trails, it’s celebrated for its warm service and generous portions. Some visitors praise its iconic cream teas and charming ambiance.
Whether you're after a soothing cream tea after a village stroll or a picturesque setting steeped in Welsh heritage, Tŷ Hwnt I’r Bont offers a memorable taste of North Wales charm.
