Aira Force

Aira Force is set in the grounds of Gowbarrow Park and is one of the most well-known waterfalls in the area.

Aira Force was the backdrop for Wordsworth’s ‘Somnambulist’ - a gothic tale of love and tragedy.

Explore the many woodland trails throughout the park before making your way to the impressive Aira Force, where the water thunders into a 65-foot drop to the pool below before making its way to Ullswater Lake. The falls is the most visited in the Lake District and boasts many viewing bridges giving you the perfect change to pose for a picture in front of the falls. To visit this waterfall couldn't be simpler with car parking and toilets available to visitors. If you are feeling peckish after your adventure the Aira Force Tearoom is a short stroll from the carpark and has stunning view of Ullswater Lake.

Be sure to keep a look out for the parks equally famous residents, the Red Squirrel. To give yourself the best chance of spotting one, get down to the falls early in the morning.
