Scafell Pike

Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England, standing at 978 metres, and offers one of the most challenging and rewarding hikes in the Lake District. Located near the village of Wasdale Head, the most popular route begins from the National Trust car park and climbs steadily over rocky paths to the summit.

Scafell Pike is part of the Three Peaks Challenge.

The ascent takes around 3 to 4 hours each way, depending on fitness and conditions. The terrain is steep and uneven in places, with a boulder field near the top that requires careful footing. At the summit, walkers are rewarded with panoramic views stretching across the Lake District and, on a clear day, to Scotland, Wales, and the Isle of Man.

Due to rapidly changing weather, proper walking boots, layers, waterproofs, and navigation tools are essential. The route is not signposted, so map and compass skills or a GPS device are recommended, especially in poor visibility.

Scafell Pike attracts both experienced hikers and first-time summit seekers. It’s a demanding but unforgettable climb, offering a true mountain experience in one of the UK’s most iconic landscapes.
