Llyn Padarn
Llyn Padarn is a glacially formed lake nestled beneath the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), offering one of North Wales’s most scenic and serene landscapes. Stretching over two miles in length, the lake is framed by dramatic peaks, lush woodland, and the historic village of Llanberis.
A perfect spot for outdoor adventure, nature watching, and relaxation.
Popular for wild swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and gentle boat trips, the lake is a haven for water-lovers, with clear waters and incredible views of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and the surrounding mountains. The Llanberis Lake Railway runs along its edge, offering a charming ride past the lakeshore and the remnants of Dinorwig Quarry.
Walking and cycling trails circle the lake, with plenty of places to stop for a picnic or take in the views including the iconic “lone tree,” one of the most photographed spots in North Wales. Wildlife is abundant too, with birds of prey overhead and otters occasionally seen in the quieter areas.
Llyn Padarn’s surroundings are rich in history, from slate quarry ruins and the National Slate Museum to ancient woodland and medieval sites. Whether you're after a peaceful lakeside stroll or a base for high-energy adventure, Llyn Padarn is a stunning and accessible destination at the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia).
