St. Fagans National Museum of History
St Fagans is one of Wales’s most beloved heritage attractions - a living museum that brings the country’s history to life in a truly immersive way. Set in the grounds of St Fagans Castle just outside Cardiff, this open-air museum features over 40 original buildings relocated from across Wales and carefully reconstructed on site.
St Fagans is one of Europe's leading open–air museums.
From traditional farmhouses and medieval churches to a working blacksmith forge, school, and 20th-century post-war prefab, each building tells the story of everyday Welsh life across centuries. Costumed staff, hands-on activities, and live demonstrations including bread baking, weaving, and farming making the experience engaging and interactive for all ages.
Surrounding the historical buildings are formal gardens, woodlands, and a working farm, offering a peaceful setting to explore Welsh heritage in a natural landscape. Inside the main exhibition building, visitors can also see artefacts, art, and temporary exhibitions that deepen the historical context.
Completely free to enter, St Fagans is a must-visit for families, history lovers, and anyone wanting to understand the culture, traditions, and resilience of the Welsh people.
