South Stack

Perched on the dramatic western cliffs of Anglesey, South Stack is one of the most iconic coastal landmarks in Wales.

Its centrepiece is the striking South Stack Lighthouse, built in 1809 on a small rocky island and still warning ships of the rugged coastline to this day. Reached by descending over 400 steps and a bridge across to the island, the lighthouse offers tours with incredible views of the Irish Sea and the surrounding cliffs.

The area is a haven for wildlife and part of an RSPB nature reserve, famous for its seabird colonies. In spring and summer, thousands of puffins, guillemots, and razorbills nest on the cliffs, while choughs and peregrine falcons circle overhead. The visitor centre offers spotting scopes, walking trails, and information on local flora and fauna.

With panoramic views, dramatic landscapes, and rich birdlife, South Stack is perfect for walkers, photographers, and nature lovers. Whether watching the sunset from the cliff edge or exploring the paths along the coast, it’s a wild and unforgettable corner of North Wales.
